How to personalise your wooden surname sign

1. Choose the total width. Measure the space where your complete wording will be displayed, then select 30cm, 50cm or 80cm.
2. Choose the finish. Select a painted colour or Unpainted natural wood. Colour swatches and the gallery chart help you compare the options.
3. Choose the font. Select one of the four visual samples. Your selected font is recorded separately, so you do not need to type its number into the wording box.
4. Enter the exact wording. Include every word you want cut, with your preferred spelling, capitals and punctuation. For example: The Williamsons, The Andersons or Willow Studio. Include “The” if you want it on your sign; it is not added automatically.
5. Check your choices before adding to the basket. Review the wording, font, finish and width together.

Size, finish and mounting

The size refers to the total width of the complete wording, including spaces. The height varies with the length of your wording and the font you choose. Longer wording has smaller individual letters at the same total width. The maximum single cutting length is approximately 50cm, so XL signs and some long wording are supplied in sections to arrange on your wall.

Unpainted signs show the natural birch grain and are supplied without a painted finish. Wood grain varies between pieces, and painted colours may look slightly different across screens and lighting. The colour chart shows all available options.

Plan the spacing before attaching the included sticky pads. Mount on a clean, dry, smooth surface indoors. Adhesive suitability depends on your wall and paint finish, so check your surface first. Take care when handling and positioning delicate script lettering.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to type “The” before my surname?

Yes, if you want it included. We use the complete wording you enter, so type “The Williamsons” rather than only “Williamsons” for that layout.

How do I choose a font?

Use the four visual font choices above and select the number you prefer. The gallery also includes a full font guide. Select the font separately from your wording.

Can I order a business name or other wording?

Yes. Enter the full name or phrase you want, such as “Willow Studio”. For unusually long wording or a specific layout, please contact us before ordering so we can check what will work.

Is the size the width of each word or the whole sign?

It is the total width of your complete wording, including spaces. Choose 30cm, 50cm or 80cm. The height is proportional to your wording and chosen font.

Will my sign arrive in one piece?

It depends on the wording and size. XL signs and longer wording may arrive in separate sections because our maximum single cutting length is approximately 50cm. Arrange the sections together with the included pads.

Are mounting pads included?

Yes, sticky pads are included with this family name sign. Use them on a suitable clean, dry, smooth indoor surface and check the finish of your wall before mounting.

What does Unpainted mean?

Unpainted is natural birch plywood with visible wood grain and no painted finish. Choose this option for a natural wood look or if you intend to add your own finish.

Can I use this sign outdoors?

This lightweight birch plywood sign is intended for indoor decorative use. Keep it away from moisture.

When will my personalised sign be dispatched?

We usually dispatch on the next working day. UK delivery is free; check the current delivery information at checkout when ordering for a particular date.

Can I change the wording after ordering?

Please contact us as soon as possible. We can check whether production has started and whether your change can still be made. Always check spelling, capitals and punctuation before placing your order.
